Who We Are
About the Initiative
The Buddy Greenspark Initiative is a youth-led social enterprise dedicated to advancing the circular economy and climate action through creative innovation. By upcycling plastic waste specifically water sachets
into durable footwear and household items, the initiative addresses environmental pollution while providing affordable essentials for underserved communities.
Beyond waste management, Buddy Greenspark Initiative ( BUGI ) leverages “Sports for Development” and “Artivism” to engage young people in governance, peacebuilding, and sustainability.
Through grassroots advocacy and inclusive programs, the initiative empowers the next generation to transform ecological challenges into economic opportunities, fostering a greener, more resilient future for Nigeria.

This pillar utilizes the universal appeal of athleticsparticularly footballas a strategic tool for social change rather than just recreation. By organizing novelty matches and local tournaments, the initiative creates a “Power Play” platform to engage youth in civic participation, peacebuilding, and climate awareness. It specifically addresses barriers to entry by providing upcycled, affordable footwear to studentathletes, ensuring that sports serve as a pathway for inclusive community development and democratic engagement.

Art for Development (Artivism)
Artivism” merges creative expression with grassroots activism to amplify environmental and social messages. Through music, such as the climate-themed “One Big Earth,” and other creative industries, the initiative translates complex policy issues into relatable cultural content. This approach leverages the “orange economy” to build resilience, spark conversations around sustainability, and mentor young peopleparticularly the “boy child”on leadership and emotional intelligence through artistic collaboration.

Climate-Resilient Communities
This focus area centers on the circular economy and practical urban sustainability. By transforming plastic waste (like water sachets) into valuable products, the initiative reduces the environmental footprint of cities like Abuja and its surrounding Area Councils. It combines technical waste management data such as that gathered during the “Kubwa Waste Walk” with policy advocacy and genderinclusive governance. The goal is to build communities that can adapt to environmental shifts while fostering local economic independence through green innovation.
